Artist's statement:
I wanted this collection of work to reflect my love for fairy tales and folklore and the illustrations that go along with them. I was raised on Grimm’s Fairy Tales and Arthur Rackham’s artwork and I draw a lot of inspiration from those sources. I’m also very inspired by medieval and Renaissance artwork, and my favorite period of art: Pre-Raphaelite. As for the work itself, I find a lot of versatility in watercolor, which is why it’s my favorite medium to work with. I find I can create great detail with line work, as well as hazy washed and misty backgrounds. Fairy tales have and likely always will be one of my greatest inspirations when it comes to my art and I’m grateful that my first show is in library, it seems quite fitting!
